Watching the wild-life near his house was a habit Tengu had gained recently. He did wish he had better eyesight and was quieter so he could get a better view of the things that resided near his home…for now, binoculars would have to do.
What he spied with his little eyes was something red with a white tipped tail. A fox with its cubs, teaching it to hunt. Tengu’s eyes lit up and he was reminded of one of his older masks…he went into the house to go find it. The vulpine mother looked towards the house briefly, then continued teaching her little ones how to hunt, stalking a group of birds that were feeding on sesame seeds Tengu had spread outside for them.
He picked up a fox mask and smiled. His dear Kitsune mask reminded him of a warrior that had chased him not long ago. The kitsune didn’t represent a warriors heart, however…it was something different. Something more, something closer to his heart, a bit hidden.
The Kitsune mask reminded him of a story of forgiveness and love. It was part of the reason he kept that beloved mask. He hoped to be forgiven and loved for any transgressions he had committed in the past…
Tengu gently touched the mask’s ear and walked back to view the fox as it hunted…he grinned slightly as it triumphed in its hunt, dragging back a bird for its children. Even though the birds were his kind, if they were too slow to move, they deserved to be caught.
